FAQ's
Do I have to sign up for a certain number of lessons?
My lessons are on a monthly basis and continue for the duration of the calendar year. There is not a maximum number of lessons that a student must take, however I do not teach "emergency lessons" for solos or auditions unless the student has studied voice previously. There is simply too much information for the beginning singer to learn in order to prepare them adequately for a public performance. If an untrained singer knows there is a special occassion they would like to prepare for, I would recommend at least three months of lessons. If you have any further questions regarding this, please feel free to contact me and I would be happy to discuss your situtation in detail.
What if I don't know whether I should study voice privately?
You may choose to have a 3O minute trial lesson for $25. We can assess your goals and determine if private lessons are the best choice for you.
Will I be reimbursed for the lessons on days when the studio is closed due to holidays?
No. For budgeting purposes and since there are months that have more weeks than others and some that have less, I keep the cost the same. I do not charge more for the months in which the student may recieve five lessons and less for the months that they recieve three. The fluxuations of the calendar year and holidays average out to 4 lessons per month and are figured into the $1OO per month charge.
What about days when the studio is closed for inclement weather? Will I be reimbursed for those days?
If I close the studio due to weather conditions on a day in which you have a scheduled lesson, you will not be offered a reimbursement but rather a make-up lesson.
What is your cancellation policy?
As a courtesy, I ask that you please provide a thirty days notice as I do not accept partial payment for early withdrawal. If it is not possible to give 3O days notice, I still expect to be paid for that month's lesson since I will not have been given sufficient time to fill that spot.
Can my child perform any song they wish?
No, and this is why. There are many songs that just aren't appropriate for a young singer, either vocally or lyrically. I am fine with a student wanting to sing a pop song, for example, providing it is appropriate for his/her age. There are so many songs that are written specifically for the young singer and I would hate to either risk damaging their voice or making the audience uncomfortable with a young singer performing a piece designed for a more mature singer. I welcome any suggestions, but please know that I have the final say when it comes to what repertoire my students sing in a recital that represents me and my studio.
