Recital Etiquette
We love having our students perform in recitals since it allows them to showcase all the hard work and effort that they have put into their singing lessons. We want the students and families to enjoy the recital experience and see it as a special occasion and a time to really shine. In order for everyone to have the same positive experience, here are a few guidelines to follow.
~ Students whom I feel are ready will be encouraged to perform, however no student will be forced to do so.
~ All students need to dress appropriately for performances. This means slacks and a dress shirt for gentlemen, and dresses, dress pants or skirts and a nice blouse for ladies. This attention to appearance will help the students feel more professional and will make their performances crisper.
~ Students must be thoroughly prepared and all songs memorized before the performance. It can be very upsetting for a student to get on stage and find they don't know the song as well as they had hoped.
~ As a courtesy to all performers, we ask that no one leave a recital, which we try to keep to about 45 minutes in length, until it is over. This applies to friends of the students as well as their family members. It is incredibly disheartening for a student who is at the end of the recital to perform for half or less of the original audience because the previous performers and their supporters have gone, and it is distracting to the rest of the audience. I cannot stress the importance of this enough. Students will be made aware of upcoming recitals as early as possible so schedules may be arranged.
